Boston Red Sox win the World Series.

September 11, 1918

The Red Sox beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 at Fenway Park behind the three-hit pitching of Carl Mays to win game 6 and the series. The team was led by pitcher Babe Ruth, who recorded two victories and extended his streak of scoreless innings in the World Series to a record 29 2/3 innings, before the Cubs scored two runs off him in a 3-2 Red Sox win at Fenway Park on September 9, 1918. It is the team’s third World Series win in four years and its last until 2004.*
